HOME

Since last summer I've been exploring a variation of English homes, specifically in Somerset, my home county. Having once lived abroad, I found great comfort in having our inglenook cottage to return to in the countryside. As I’m growing up, I’m keeping a nostalgic attachment to Hill House but have come to realise the feeling of a home morphs and shapes itself around the people in it, rather than the material building. It’s this personal feeling I’ve wanted to portray through my project, finding myself welcomed into each home included in this final book. I've kept stories of achievements as well as sadness, capturing the quirks in their surroundings. The most poignant theme I’ve then found is comfort. Whether it was a household keeping the memory of former members alive, or upholding a relaxed utopia type environment away from work, each response gives a personal insight into the creation of their ‘home’.  A handwritten comment accompanies each set of photographs, personally written by a household member. I hope my photographs do them slight justice, and that you have the pleasure of feeling welcomed home.
